Auto Glass Service FAQs

Why should I get chips in my windshield repaired?

While chips start small, they often crack and spider or spread much further in severe weather changes. Cracks or chips that impede a driver’s vision can be extremely dangerous. Large chips or spreading cracks can weaken the windshield, which typically provides up to 30% of your vehicle’s structural integrity, in turn making your entire vehicle and its passengers more vulnerable in the event of a collision.

For safety, and to save time and money in the long run, it’s best to repair chips before they turn into hazards.

How do I know if my windshield can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced?

If the chip is larger than the size of a quarter (2.388 cm) across or has started to spread, it’s likely you will need to have the windshield replaced. Cracks larger than six inches in length across or that run through a driver’s vision will also require replacement. If you’re unsure, you should have a professional assess the damage. Go Tire provides this service.

Even if my windshield needs to be replaced, can I still just get it repaired?

Keeping drivers safe and on the road is job one at Go Tire. If your existing windshield can be repaired to meet safety requirements, Go Tire is happy to save you time and money by making those repairs. However, if Go Tire professionals determine that the damage is too extensive and a repair will compromise your safety, Go Tire professionals will replace your windshield.

Do I have to get the brand of glass my vehicle was originally manufactured with?

If your vehicle has certain technological features, you will likely need to purchase the same brand of glass rather than a generic substitute. For example, vehicles that have a heads-up display (HUD) for speed, distances, or other information, require compatible windshields. Be sure to ask your replacement professional before choosing a substitute brand for your vehicle.

If I pre-purchase my glass elsewhere will Go Tire still do the installation?

Certainly. Go Tire is happy to serve our customers regardless of where they obtain their product.

How long does replacement take?

Typically Go Tire mobile crews can replace your glass in approximately an hour. If there are complications or for specific types of glass, we may need more time. Your Go Tire service representative will be able to give you an accurate quote once they have the details about the make of  your glass.

How long do repairs take?

In most cases, repairs can be completed in thirty minutes or less.

What about insurance?

Depending on your insurance provider, Go Tire may be able to bill your insurance provider directly for repairs and replacements covered under your policy. Ask for details when you speak with your Go Tire technician.
